Once Jesus asked a Samaritan woman water to quench His thirst as He was tired from His journey.
John 4:7-9;13-14 nkjv
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
The woman’s tradition almost stood in the way of heeding to Jesus’ request, she had something she so valued and it took spending time with the Lord to let go and receive that which is far greater in value than what she holds dearly. The Samaritan woman’s precious possession was her tradition.
Jesus told her ‘If only she knew the person asking her for a drink’ she would have embraced what He the creator of all things can give.
Imagine meeting Jesus today like this woman, will you rather hold to your traditions than receive the abundance that He can supply.
Jesus needs us to release our traditions, our religion, our estranged believes and embrace the abundant riches that awaits us in His truth and love.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” I Cor. 2:9 nkjv
Receive grace to let go and embrace His truth the more.
